Rachel Tarpy _arpy — Beautiful Americans was pretty good. I liked the story and the well-developed characters but I found myself having to take a break from this book every now and then. It is not really a page turner, more like a reality T.V show in writing, sometimes it can get slow. Even though at times it bored me a bit, I still enjoyed it. I loved how Zack, Alex, Olivia, and P.J have their own secrets. It definitely made the book more interesting to read. Zack-He's in Paris and he's there to make some friends and hopefully find a boyfriend. I found to be a very likable character, you'd want him as your buddy. :) If you're a guy who's gay, you'd like him as your boyfriend. hehe Alex-Oh Alex, this poor girl. She's in Paris to have fun! She's the kind of girl who always gets what she wants or is she? Overall she's a great person but...she has issues with guys I guess you could say. You'll like her character too. PJ-Penelope is in Paris to get away from her troubled life. What is this girl hiding? Olivia-Olivia is a sweet innocent girl who's also an amazing dancer. She is torn between staying in Paris or going back home with her parents and autistic brother. I liked the way the book was narrated it was great and the reader comes to understand each character more. The chapters alternate between each of the four main characters point of view. I love it! Though sometimes the author left a cliffhanger which made me go "ahh I want more" haha but it's a good kind of cliffhanger. I can't wait for the sequel which comes out Fall 2009!! Hopefully it will be much, much better.
Haris Karoutsos hariskaroutsos — an autobiographical story of a jewish woman who marries a nazi during the holacaust. it is a neat perspective on passing for not being jewish by being in a totally unlikely spot.
Ashley Parks _mp_raphic_esign — What I've discovered about Garcia Marquez while reading this and One Hundred Years of Solitude is that his books take an overly meandering path to their ending. Once his stories get to their ending though (which may only be a few paragraphs), they justify slogging through the rest of the book (which may have been over 400 pages). The endings wouldn't be able to stand on their own; they need the slow build-up of the rest of the novels.
Kamilla Krontoft _ami0895 — Rating 4.5 I really loved Brandon's Bride. From the past books we know that Brandon was the oldest child of Max, staid, responsible who from an early age was an adult taking on the anger of a bitter mother, an absent father and later on his two siblings. He worked hard to get back his mother's property and she in turn called him, cold, money-minded, workaholic. He fell in love with Julia, married her but he was still worked too hard even when she urged him to spend time with her, then she died and Brandon felt like his father and ran, roaming all around the world courting adventure and trying to lose his money unsuccessfully and also investigating his father's death. He has a lead, his father was friends with three people and one disappeared and one is still alive, so he takes a job as a hotshot and rents a place to live, Victoria's ranch. Victoria comes from a big loving family, she has a struggling ranch and a eight year old to raise. Her ex-husband turned out to be worthless, a druggie. So, when she sees Brandon, sparks ignite immediately. For me the book worked mainly because I liked how these two communicated. Brandon was a little closed off, weighed down by the death of his wife who he thought did not die of a simple mugging and on top of that the similarities he felt he had with his father, but Victoria didn't let him back off, whenever he tried to put some distance between them she made him talk things out. Like adults they air the attraction between them and Victoria acknowledges she doesn't want to act on it, atleast not at that moment. I enjoyed the scene when Brandon wants to give her some money, to ease things through, and Victoria loses it and then Brandon comes to the realization, he gives everything but himself to people. I also did enjoy finally finding out what Max did.(view spoiler)
Josh Fraser _osh_raser — i loved this book as it both helped me feel better about my many and varied interests, it also provided provocative and practical ways to be able to actually do everything i love to do! a must read for those who always want to learn something new as well as those who love them.
